{"id":1143,"date":"2026-07-24T20:14:02","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T20:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/relocationacrossamerica.com\/?p=1143"},"modified":"2026-07-24T20:14:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T20:14:02","slug":"lestats-debut-album-is-no-mere-tv-soundtrack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relocationacrossamerica.com\/?p=1143","title":{"rendered":"Lestat\u2019s debut album is no mere TV soundtrack"},"content":{"rendered":"<section>\n<p>Not since \u201cOnce More with Feeling\u201d \u2014 the 2001 musical episode of \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer,\u201d wisely released on vinyl by Mondo in 2019 \u2014 have I taken the genre of music best described as \u201cTV songs\u201d as seriously as I am, right this very second, listening to Lestat de Lioncourt\u2018s debut album, \u201cThe Failures,\u201d released on Spotify and elsewhere just days after the finale of AMC\u2019s \u201cThe Vampire Lestat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationacrossamerica.com\/?p=1141\">\u201cRemake\u201d will shift your perspective on grief<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Confronted with pondering just how good or \u201cvalid\u201d rock songs written for a show about vampires could be, you may be tempted to take on a \u201cwhat in the Dingoes Ate My Baby is this now,\u201d attitude about the whole deal, but factor in that each original song was written by Daniel Hart \u2014 who not only wrote the music for both previous seasons of \u201cInterview with the Vampire,\u201d but has also written music for \u201cA Ghost Story,\u201d \u201cMother Mary\u201d plus countless other projects \u2014 and that these songs are sung by Lestat himself (Sam Reid), and it shakes out to the album as a whole being worthy of not just respect as a body of music, but heavy rotation for being actually . . . well . . . good.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 23 tracks on \u201cThe Failures,\u201d which include demos, remixes and alternate versions of songs featured in \u201cThe Vampire Lestat,\u201d the stand-outs and repeat plays, for me, can be found in the Sisters of Mercy-esque \u201cWhen I Call Out Your Name,\u201d along with powerballads from the show such as \u201cThe Loneliness,\u201d \u201cStained Glass Eyes,\u201d and \u201cBrutal Love\u201d \u2014 all of which would not seem out of place on a late-career Peter Murphy album.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationacrossamerica.com\/?p=1136\">\u201cThe Man Will Burn\u201d accidentally shows why people despise Burning Man<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually found it much easier than writing songs about myself.
