Turning Point USA was co-founded by Charlie Kirk and its fundraising apparatus since his death has centered around fading MAGA fantasies that he will be a movement-reviving martyr. So it was a little surprising that one of the speakers at TPUSA\u2019s Women\u2019s Leadership Summit in San Antonio, Texas, Alex Clark, spoke about how Kirk made her feel bad about herself. Speaking last weekend to a crowd of largely high school and college-aged attendees, the host TPUSA\u2019s \u201cCulture Apothecary\u201d remembered the cruelty of Kirk\u2019s talk at last year\u2019s summit, in which he shamed women who aren\u2019t married by 30, suggesting they are old maids who likely would never find a husband.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was sitting in the audience and it stung a little bit,\u201d Clark, 33, confessed. \u201cI was sitting there as a woman in her 30s who very much wanted marriage. And I know that there\u2019s a lot of other ladies in this audience who are in the same boat.\u201d She even complained about \u201cright-wing men\u201d who \u201cact like we\u2019re supposed to just I guess live under an overpass and wait for our husband to fall from the sky.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But even while tacitly admitting Kirk\u2019s scolding was unfair, she still insisted she was grateful for the \u201cfatherly tough love.\u201d (Kirk was younger than Clark, by about 8 months.) \u201cCharlie was trying to wake America up,\u201d she argued, though never quite articulated how.<\/p>\n

Clark\u2019s entire speech was a bundle of contradictions. She argued that it\u2019s okay to be single, but then also chastised the audience, \u201cI think we love ourselves a little too much.\u201d She promised that being single isn\u2019t God\u2019s punishment, but then criticized unmarried women for being too picky, adding, \u201cNow ask yourself, would you want to marry you?\u201d At the end of this confusing speech, however, she reassured the audience that all this self-loathing and frustration was worth it.<\/p>\n
